Introducing the Ostrich pillow: power napping made easy

08 Apr

Have you ever felt the uncontrollable need to take a nap during the day? When your eyelids feel so heavy that you just have to close your eyes for a second? Well, there’s nothing to be ashamed of, it’s only natural that we run out of energy from time to time given our busy schedules and hectic lifestyles.

To keep up the pace with the rapid evolution of the modern society we need to constantly adapt and find new ways to socialize, work and relax…event if it means breaking away from traditional guidelines for a change.

A young architecture and design studio, Kawamura-Ganjavian, has come up with a plan to help us disconnect wherever we are, at work or at home, in front of a computer screen or in transit. We can have our moment of peace and recharge our batteries with the Ostrich Pillow. It may trigger a few laughs, especially if you wear it in airport lounges or bus stations, yet it’s totally worth it, wouldn’t you say?

The Ostrich Pillow has been designed to allow us to create a little private space within a public one, a perfect spot to unwind and dream for a second. The capsule’s soothing soft interior shelters and isolates your head and hands (mind and body) for a short break wherever and whenever you feel like it, in trains, airplanes, libraries, at the office, on a sofa and even on the floor.

You might even give it a try at work, though you’ll need to come up with some strong arguments if you want your boss to approve of this innovative relaxing method. If you do a little research you’ll find that some employers are totally cool with the idea and they even provide a proper place for employees to retreat, all for the right reasons. A power nap of around 20 minutes increases productivity by more than 30%, studies say, and it’s a far better alternative to caffeine and sugar. Or smoking. Some people take on this nagging habit as a means to reduce anxiety at work. Why go there when you could just take an Ostrich nap?

In addition, NASA studies have proved that naps help improve brain function, as well as performance, accuracy and moods. NBA Players have been known to nap regularly, especially before games to help with performance. Even entire countries like Greece, Italy and Spain take siestas on a regular basis, and it’s doing wonders for their frame of mind. It’s also a great way to get over jet lag.
