Former Playboy mansion changes hands for $5.2 million

There is almost nothing at the former Playboy Mansion in Chicago to remind of Hugh Hefner and his bunnies, yet he still sells. And he sells good. A 7,784-square-foot unit in the famous residential property at 1340 N State Parkway changed hands for an impressive $5.2 million.

Presented for sale by Katherine Chez Malkin at Baird & Warner Inc., the upscale condo was sold in a cash transaction. It occupies the entire second floor of the well-known residence and is absolutely incredible in terms of décor and interior design. And one wouldn’t expect less from such a premier piece of real estate. The whole living area shouts glamor and style; it comprises three spacious en suite bedrooms and five full baths, complemented by a gorgeous attached terrace. The master suite enjoys an amazing tree-lined view and an attached paneled study.

The entire outfit is a reminder of an elegant era, infused with a playful yet luxurious vibe which makes it aesthetically pleasing. The living room is intense; it was once a grand ballroom, 52 X 27, so you can imagine how gorgeous it looks; the room has still got its original paneling and soaring ceiling heights. There is a certain timelessness feel following you around. The dining area preserves the same classiness and sophistication as the rest of the house. There is a fully equipped kitchen, with an attached butler’s pantry and a family room. It’s truly fantastic.

The house was built in 1899 for Dr. George Swift Isham and was bought by Hefner in 1959. It housed the legendary Playboy icon until 1974, when Hefner abandoned it and moved full-time to the West Coast, taking all his “long-eared” friends with him.

Here’s a sneak peek into the former Playboy Mansion:
